What is Transactional Analysis (TA)?
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a type of therapy that helps people understand themselves better and improve their relationships. It was developed by Dr. Eric Berne in the 1950s.
TA is based on the idea that we all have three parts inside us, called ego states:
Parent– the part that copies how we were raised.
Adult– the part that thinks and makes decisions in the present.
Child– the part that holds our feelings, needs, and early experiences.
These parts influence how we think, feel, and behave in everyday life. In therapy, TA helps us see how these parts interact and affect how we relate to ourselves and others.
How TA Helps in Therapy
In a TA session, you and the therapist work together as equals. You both agree on clear goals and what you want to achieve. TA encourages personal responsibility and supports you in making positive changesin your life.
By focusing on strengthening your adult ego state, TA helps you:
Make better choices | Understand your emotions and behaviours | Communicate more clearly | Grow personally and emotionally |
The aim is to help you become more independent, confident, and in control of your life.
Benefits of TA
Improves communicationand relationships.
Supports personal growth and healing.
Helps resolve inner conflicts and emotional struggles.
It can be used in many areas, such as therapy, education, parenting, coaching, and workplace training.
TA is useful for anyone who wants to feel more in control of their life, build healthier relationships, and understand themselves better.
